Civica Law Group is delighted to welcome its newest attorney, Gabriel Gollette. He recently passed the California Bar Examination and was sworn in July 2023 by Judge John Adams at the esteemed Harbor Justice Center; Gabriel’s journey to this pivotal moment has been marked by tenacity, resilience, and a profound passion for justice.
As a Native American from the Acjachemen (a-ha-she-men) Nation, an indigenous tribe off the coast of Southern California, tribal sovereignty and federal recognition dominated the conversation at tribal gatherings. Inspired by the idea of helping his tribe gain federal recognition, Gabriel knew at a young age that a legal education would be the best way to help his tribe achieve this goal.
Reflecting on this moment, Gabriel shares, “I was a young boy when I knew I wanted to enter the legal field, to stand up for others who might not have a voice.”
Before embarking on his legal journey, Gabriel attended New York University, where he majored in Political Science and was an integral part of the ice hockey program. As a defenseman for the NYU Violets, he aided in capturing a national championship in 2015 and a #1 division ranking in the 2015/2016 season. His leadership on the ice translated seamlessly into his academic pursuits, demonstrating his ability to navigate high-pressure situations gracefully and determinedly.
“The mission statement of Civica Law Group reminded me why I got into the study of law. It’s not just about helping my tribe but about helping individuals wanting to improve their lives. Everyone deserves a safe city, and the firm helps municipalities get to a better standard of living. I’m looking forward to growing and developing in a way that helps those around me and the community.”
Gabriel Gollette
After graduating from NYU, he attended California Western School of Law, earning his Juris Doctorate in 2022. His commitment to education was unwavering, even as he played hockey until age 26. His passion for the sport never waned, but he knew he needed to focus on his education to achieve his goal of becoming an attorney.
Upon joining Civica Law Group, Gabriel was drawn to the firm’s mission statement of “service to communities and the public through assisting cities and counties in enforcing their laws effectively, efficiently, and fairly,” which resonated with his reasons for studying law. He believes in the power of law to improve lives and create safer, more equitable communities.
Currently, Gabriel is focused on assisting with Civica Law Group’s criminal prosecution cases. He has already made significant contributions to the firm’s legal research team, particularly on the Grants Pass Case, where he skillfully extracted and analyzed the judges’ rationale behind the case.
Gabriel is shadowing Civica Law attorneys, Matthew Trujillo and Daniel Ohl, learning from their expertise as he continues to grow and develop his legal skills. He is committed to using his position at Civica Law Group to impact the community positively.
Gabriel says about his role, “The mission statement of Civica Law Group reminded me why I got into the study of law. It’s not just about helping my tribe but about helping individuals wanting to improve their lives. Everyone deserves a safe city, and the firm helps municipalities get to a better standard of living. I’m looking forward to growing and developing in a way that helps those around me and the community.”
Outside of his legal pursuits, Gabriel is an avid golfer, hitting the links about once a week. He highly recommends the Bethpage Black Course just outside of New York City on Long Island, a location he never passes up an invite. He also fondly remembers attending a Train concert in July 2023 at the San Diego County Fair, his first and only concert.
We are thrilled to have Gabriel Gollette on our team at Civica Law Group. His passion for justice, commitment to community improvement, and unique perspective as a Native American make him a valuable addition to our firm. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on our clients and the communities we serve.
